Born and raised in Zimbabwe and currently based in Calgary, KTheChosen creates music that is both enlightening and entertaining. As a TEDx speaker, hip-hop, and spoken word artist, K (as he is affectionately known) believes in the power of storytelling and uses his voice to share the experiences of those around him.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe and currently based in Calgary, KTheChosen creates music that is both enlightening and entertaining. As a TEDx speaker, hip-hop, and spoken word artist, K (as he is affectionately known) believes in the power of storytelling and uses his voice to share the experiences of those around him.  His last album, +Vice (pronounced "add vice") was released on the 22nd of October 2021 and covers topics such as grief, feminism, and mental well-being. This community-focused album with its accompanying visuals and fundraising initiatives resulted in K being included in The Calgary Herald's Top 20 Compelling Calgarians for that year. The album was also nominated for Rap Recording of the year at the 2022 YYC Music Awards.

As a TEDx speaker, hip-hop, and spoken word artist, K (as he is affectionately known) believes in the power of storytelling and uses his voice to share the experiences of those around him. He performed these two festivals with his three-piece band known as, “The Knomads”. Their set includes freestyle jams and unique instrumentation from a live drum machine, guitar and a theremin!

Professional / Educational Bio (259 words)

Born and raised in Zimbabwe and currently based in Calgary, KTheChosen creates music that is both enlightening and entertaining. As a TEDx speaker, hip-hop, and spoken word artist, K (as he is affectionately known) believes in the power of storytelling and uses his voice to share the experiences of those around him.  As a mentor, K has also been involved in youth programs from Science Genius (a program that teaches middle school children about science through music) to Antyx Arts’ series of workshops for freestyling and artistic practice. This year, he is one of the mentors of the Woezo Africa Black Artist Development program. As an immigrant artist, he has performed at the Woezo Africa Cultural Festival, Ethnik Festival, and the 2022 LaFontaine Baldwin Lecture which featured Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada as the guest speaker. He also performed for an Enhanced Canadian Citizenship Ceremony at the Telus Spark Centre hosted by Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) with Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek as a special guest. As a creative consultant, K has assisted several Calgary artists with social media campaigns and rollout strategies as well as general artistic development. He has also written for the YYC Records music review blog, contributed to the music annotation website, Genuis, and curated a playlist of local music for Village Ice Cream stores.  He has also hosted open mic events such as "Raw Voices” and is the current MC and co-curator for The Ship and Anchor's quarterly  "Ship Hop" Showcase.
